Welcome

Hi, I’m Lisa. I live in a New England coastal tourist town, but I grew up on a farm in Vermont.  I live with my husband Jeff, who is crazy about fall foliage and has a blog as Jeff ‘Foliage‘ where he shares photos and info about traveling to our part of the world in the fall.

As far back as I can remember, I was making things and drawing.  Growing up on a rural farm, I learned from my mother how to make due with what you had on hand and making my own toys was a large part of my childhood. From my mother, I learned to embroider, crochet and sew.  In high school, I learned to oil paint and painted oil paintings for a while.

It wasn’t until I started making dolls as an adult that the memories of doll making came back to me. I made corn husk and apple head dolls for my little sister to play with.   I made cloth dolls for my children, and even sold some.  The doll thing has really always been with me.

I have come full circle and started making dolls again.  I use all the skills I learned from past experiences to create my art dolls.  I’m always learning new things, like sculpting.  I just love the way characters evolve when I make figurative art.

My other love growing up was books.  So this evolved into a love for paper and altered books.  Other things I work on are mixed media, textures, embellishments, and creating miniatures.  Everything I learn is put to use in creating.

My upbringing draws me to nature and vintage finds, turning unused items into art or upcycling (that’s transforming something unused into something useful again).  I search for items from flea markets, thrift stores, nature walks, and yes, sometimes the neighbor’s trash for materials.

Thanks for joining me and I hope you enjoy my work.
